A MANIFESTATION OF OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSED ESTABLISHMENT OF LANDFILL DUMPING SITE AT SEMIRARA ISLAND, CALUYA, ANTIQUE.
The Libertadnons On-Line and the people of the Municipality of Libertad, Antique communicates its impassioned objection to the establishment of a dumping site at Semirara Island, Caluya, Antique based on the following reasons:

Dumping of tons of garbage will leak leachates which contain lethal substances that are highly poisonous to humans, animals and sea creatures in Caluya and adjoining municipalities and islands; |

Dumping of garbage in the proposed dumping site will contaminate and destroy the ecological system in the area, especially the endangered species that are only found along the coasts of Caluya and Libertad; |
|
Leaks from the landfill poses high risks to the health of the Antiqueños, especially of our children; |
|
Spread of hazardous substances, odor and disease in the area will destroy the marine life and fresh air around Semirara including our municipality, to the detriment to the fishing and tourism livelihood of the Libertadnons; |
We, therefore, oppose the MMDA's dumping of
Manila garbage in the Island of Semirara, Caluya,
Antique.
